Our Principal

Welcome to John Reed Elementary school! My name is Monica Fong.  Together the staff and I are building strong foundations for your children in the areas of reading, math, computer coding, science and so much more.

I began my teaching career in Chicago and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Education from St. Xavier University.  I have taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 5th grade and 8th grade.  I received my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education and taught Full Inclusion classes in Chicago Public Schools.  Later, I completed my Master’s Degree in Educational Administration at Loyola University in Chicago.  I served as an Assistant Principal in Chicago and here at John Reed.  I also worked as a special education teacher for Sonoma County Office of Education and as a Program Specialist for Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District.

I have recently completed the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership at the University of California at Davis and look forward to leading the John Reed School community this year.

In my free time I enjoy reading, spending time with my husband, Dr. Loren Fong, and our five children and two-grandchildren. We love to go into the city, take rides on his motorcycle, and work on our house.

My goal, together with the staff, is to support the students and families of John Reed as they work toward success. Every child is special and unique and has a voice that needs to be heard.  Every child deserves the best education possible and should love going to school! Please stop by anytime and say hi!
